(PIX11) – Actress Valerie Harper, who announced she was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in March, revealed to “Today” that her health has made a miraculous turn for the better.
In an hour-long special with Meredith Vieira set to air September 19th, the “Mary Tyler Moore” star’s doctors say her leptomeningeal carcinomatosis is close to remission.
“I’d say that we’re getting pretty close to a remission,” neruo-oncologist Dr. Jeremy Rudnick, told the 74-year-old actress.
Rudnick says the rare form of cancer can develop a resistance to therapy, however. “It’s not a matter of if (the cancer becomes resistant), it’s a matter of when,” he said.
Harper, beloved for her role as “Rhoda,” told Vieira, “I just want to live every moment to the fullest.”
Reports speculate that Harper will be a contestant on the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars.”
